The Sheepfold and the Voice of the Shepherd

Stone sheepfold John 10:22-30 Recently my boys have been spending a great deal of time outside in the area that will soon be transformed into our garden. They spend endless hours digging in the dirt for worms. They then promptly take those worms and throw them to the chickens. It amazes me how even chickens can learn to recognize sounds or voices. My oldest makes this funny high-pitched sound when he comes out of the house and heads toward the coop. The chickens practically fall over themselves running toward the fence or out of the coop when they hear him making his sound. They know there is food to follow! In Sunday's Gospel Jesus tells us that, "My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me." and "I am the gate for the sheep." Today, again, Jesus mentions that His sheep know His voice and follow Him.  In these few verses we learn that Jesus is both gate and shepherd for the sheep. In those days and even today in some places, a sheepfold w

Catherine

Catherine had a well check today and she is now 19# 8 oz. and 27 1/2 in long! I finally received a referral to a GI doctor from her surgeon and I was able to make an appointment last week while we were out of town...for October 1. I was disappointed since I really didn't want to watch Catherine throw up 1-2 times every night for the next 2+ months. I'm realistic that there won't be an overnight fix for this, but I am ready to look at other options and have another opinion. So, while debating on whether to call and beg for an earlier appointment, I received a call at 8:30pm (!) last night wanting to know if we could do an appointment this Thursday since there had been a cancellation. So I am very encouraged and thankful that we will be able to see a GI doctor tomorrow. Hopefully he can shed some light on her situation.
Our visit down to LA was great! The cousins got to visit and play and my siblings, their spouses, and my parents got to visit and play too! One of the highlights of the trip was visiting those friends and family members who had never seen Catherine in person before but had been praying for her right from the beginning. I wasn't ready for the response from these prayer warriors. We visited friends from my parents' church and from the Food Bank where my parents volunteer. I heard things like "I can't believe I am finally holding her", "We've prayed so hard for you!" I saw a few tears even. It just reminded me again how blessed we truly are to have so many who prayed for Catherine, and they still are. I don't know if any of you we saw in LA are reading this, but thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I know that some of you as well are struggling and are in need of prayers. You can count on them.
God Bless you!
