Washing Feet: An Example of Service or Something More?

Jesus Washing Peter's Feet by Ford Madox Brown 1852-6 So, during supper, fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God, he rose from supper and took off his outer garments. He took a towel and tied around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and dry them with the towel around his waist. - John 13:2-5 Today, in 2024 A.D., we don't give much thought to these few sentences. The impact of the activity of Jesus is lost on us because a) We wear shoes everywhere. Many of us even have "inside shoes" and "outside shoes". b) The Church's liturgy (as popularly practiced) often misses or lessens the importance of this event (pro tip: it's not simply Jesus giving and example of serving others). She loves to eat!

It's been 4 weeks since we arrived in Seattle, 2 weeks since we've been home, and I know she'll never go back now. This girl asks to eat constantly. She's made a breakthrough this past weekend and will eat almost anything I offer her. I make a food record once a week to send to Karen, and I'll just post it here and let it speak for itself. She ate this yesterday:

1/2 slice of toast with butter
3 Tablespoons of scrambled eggs
taste of yogurt
4 jumbo raisins
1 cup of popcorn
2 blueberries
1.5 cups of puff corn
1/2 slice of bread with almond butter
1/3 of a banana
20 veggie straws
1/2 vienna sausage
5 bites of avocado
2 bites of grilled cheese sandwich
3/4 of a Nutragrain cereal bar
1 whole cheese stick!
5 pieces of canned peach
11 bunny grahams

She gained 4 oz. from last week and now weighs 23# 13 oz. She is on one tube feed at bedtime and water boluses during the day.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Catherine...she is doing great!
