Washing Feet: An Example of Service or Something More?

Jesus Washing Peter's Feet by Ford Madox Brown 1852-6 So, during supper, fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God, he rose from supper and took off his outer garments. He took a towel and tied around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and dry them with the towel around his waist. - John 13:2-5 Today, in 2024 A.D., we don't give much thought to these few sentences. The impact of the activity of Jesus is lost on us because a) We wear shoes everywhere. Many of us even have "inside shoes" and "outside shoes". b) The Church's liturgy (as popularly practiced) often misses or lessens the importance of this event (pro tip: it's not simply Jesus giving and example of serving others). Contrary to what we see in the movies, the roads in the time of Jesus weren't all covered in perfectly placed cobblestones or silky, fine dust. If r

Baptismal Candle Giveaway!!

We are so excited to be a part of this give-away.  We are giving away one beautiful, artisanal, baptismal candle from REGINA Candles.  Each one is personalized and handpainted just for you.  Read through for details for how you can enter to win...

Baptism is our adoption into the family of God, an incredible gift and a key moment of life when we are freed of sin and filled with God’s grace.  Baptism leads to all other Sacraments where we continue to be nourished by God’s Church.  At each baptism a blessed candle is lit from the Paschal candle, the great symbol of Christ in every Catholic church.  The little light of the baptismal candle is brought home but too often forgotten.

Many cultures cherish the baptismal candle as the sign of that great birth into the family of God.  The candles accompany the person to the rest of their Sacraments and they are brought out each year to celebrate the baptismal date, Christmas, Candlemas and Easter.

These artisanal candles are personalized, liturgical quality, 51 % beeswax that will help families remember the incredible gift of baptism.  There are seven Christological themes from which to choose.  Each candle comes in a protective tube with a votive holder and suggestions for implementing annual baptismal celebrations into your family tradition.  The candle is a beautiful and perpetual gift, a perfect gift from grandparents or god parents.

This is a $40 value that we are giving away to someone in our Real Life Rosary family.  Don't worry though if you don't win.  You can still visit REGINA Candles and take 15% off of any order just for being a member of our family!

To win a lovely baptism candle, just leave a comment! If you “like” our page on Facebook, let us know in a second comment for a second chance to win! (It’s also a great way to be notified of a new post.) We will close the giveaway on Wednesday night.
