Baptismal Candle Giveaway!!

We are so excited to be a part of this give-away.  We are giving away one beautiful, artisanal, baptismal candle from REGINA Candles.  Each one is personalized and handpainted just for you.  Read through for details for how you can enter to win...

Baptism is our adoption into the family of God, an incredible gift and a key moment of life when we are freed of sin and filled with God’s grace.  Baptism leads to all other Sacraments where we continue to be nourished by God’s Church.  At each baptism a blessed candle is lit from the Paschal candle, the great symbol of Christ in every Catholic church.  The little light of the baptismal candle is brought home but too often forgotten.

Many cultures cherish the baptismal candle as the sign of that great birth into the family of God.  The candles accompany the person to the rest of their Sacraments and they are brought out each year to celebrate the baptismal date, Christmas, Candlemas and Easter.

These artisanal candles are personalized, liturgical quality, 51 % beeswax that will help families remember the incredible gift of baptism.  There are seven Christological themes from which to choose.  Each candle comes in a protective tube with a votive holder and suggestions for implementing annual baptismal celebrations into your family tradition.  The candle is a beautiful and perpetual gift, a perfect gift from grandparents or god parents.

This is a $40 value that we are giving away to someone in our Real Life Rosary family.  Don't worry though if you don't win.  You can still visit REGINA Candles and take 15% off of any order just for being a member of our family!

To win a lovely baptism candle, just leave a comment! If you “like” our page on Facebook, let us know in a second comment for a second chance to win! (It’s also a great way to be notified of a new post.) We will close the giveaway on Wednesday night.

Just to clarify, The gold leaf on the candles is hand applied. The detail work is a reproduction of my own artwork on a thin gelatin film that is also hand applied.

When checking out, use the code jameshahn2015 for your 15% discount. The discount will last until May 27.

If you know there's a baptism coming up but don't know the details, you can purchase a gift certificate now to take advantage of the discount.

Catherine's Mobile Stander

I've once again learned to not underestimate this girl.  At school she has been receiving therapy using this stander to help her gain strength and stamina.  We brought it home for the summer and I'm simply blown away.

I'm amazed at how proficient she is at maneuvering such a device.  She is able to roll around corners, through doorways, over carpet and more.  Catherine makes it look easy and she does so with the hand-eye coordination of a professional gamer.

However, what really amazes me is her disposition when she is in this contraption.  There are tons of books and videos addressing the power of posture, the power of physical positioning and it's influence on the mental position and mental health.
These short (35 minute) sessions that Catherine experiences twice per day confirms the theories.  Each time she is placed in the stander her demeanor changes.  She's happy, smiles more (if that's possible) and is more outgoing.  She wheels around the house greet…

Take Up Your Cross

Thursday after Ash Wednesday

In the First Reading, Moses challenges the people, and us, to "choose life". He says, "choose life, that you and your descendants may live." This seems pretty practical. If we choose life, we and our descendants will go on. If not, well...

However, I think we need to look deeper. In fact, I would encourage you to insert a word here in the scriptures, if only mentally - "choose eternal life." For most of us, choosing life is not much of a choice in the arena of our daily lives. Most of us do not rise in the morning with the thought of I'm going to choose to live this day racing through our brains. Yet choosing eternal life must be an everyday, and in fact every moment, choice. It is an effort to make those choices day after day and minute after minute. In some degree, every choice we make throughout our day is a choice for either eternal life or eternal death - therefore choose life!

So how then do we "choo…
