The Seasons: A Poem

Sunrise over Amazing Grasses Family Farm The mad Artist wields His brush, Painted colors rush, To life and give flush, Before the quiet autumn hush. The life seems to pour, As colors fall to the floor, To be seen no more, Outside the dark, grey door. Brightness from below, Sun upon the snow, High, cold clouds blow, Flakes and ice appear to grow. The man melts with little seen, Underneath, pale, grey green, Hides life in dark unseen, Waits for warmth and to careen. Buds on branches show, Patience starts to grow, Trickles, streams and veins flow, Bringing fruits of melted snow. Sprung to life it springs, Bees, birds, sound rings, Lush green flings, Its gift bounty brings. Green growth gives one last rush, Underneath the Painter's brush. The mad Artist wields His brush, before the quiet autumn hush. More poetry is available from James M. Hahn in  The Last Dragon and Other Poems  available now. Monday Pictures

It was a great weekend. Then again, any weekend when I am not working on Sunday is a great weekend. After our Grand Opening of the Bookstore some friends from work came over to visit and we had a wonderful time. Also, thank you to those who prayed for me for my presentation to the youth of our home parish. It went well but I think an adult bible study is going to come from it. Nicole and I are talking about hosting an adult study on Saturday mornings at the store. We are hooked on The Great Adventure Catholic Bible Study and I highly recommend it. There is also a teen version, The Teen Timeline (T3) by Mart Hart that is awesome too.

Anyway, here are some pictures from the weekend, enjoy!

I'm fascinated by sunflowers as you can tell. The large ones we have planted now have smaller flowers growing from the "joint" where the leaf meets the stem, it's more like a trunk. The bees love them.

Here is my lovely wife in our jungle of a garden handing #3 a box of fresh picked pole beans. The boys complained when we made them go outside after Mass saying it was too hot yet they all decided to wear winter hats! (we call them toboggans here)

These sunflower heads continue to grow and grow. I'm guessing it is the seeds filling out. They are very heavy and I have had to tie a few of the stalks (trunks) to the coop to keep them from crushing our garden fence.

This is Nicole's hand up against one of the leaves of a sunflower plant.

Here again is the lovely Nicole posing in front of the sunflowers as they tower above her.

This is a picture of an okra flower. We've been eating fried okra and all I can say is mmmmmmm good. Then again, anything fried is good!!

#1 modeling the toboggan. This six year old looks like a seventeen year old punk off of MTV except for the Beagle Scout shirt....

I love this picture! Here #2 is threatening the "papa"ratzi with his wet self.

We just had to get the sprinkler out one more time.
After the sprinkler we gave the boys hair cuts. I don't know what it is about hair cuts but it's like an excuse to take off your clothes. I have them strip down to their shorts and cut their hair in the middle of the yard but if you leave them alone like that for long...well, see for yourself. They were complaining about it being too hot.....

A photographer must have a great deal of patience to get just the right shot. He or she must endure the elements, lack of sleep, and lack of food to get that perfect picture that years from now will be taken out of some forgotten album and given to a potential spouse.....
