A Temple of the Holy Spirit

Daniel & Catherine ready for Confirmation I had the privilege of witnessing my son and daughter receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this past Tuesday at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Annunciation in Lancaster, OH. It was a wonderful Mass with a full choir, trumpets, and all the rest. During his remarks, Bishop Earl K. Fernandes mentioned that we too, like the Basilica, are temples of the Lord. It caused me to reflect on this idea. Although I've mostly seen only pictures of the great cathedrals and basilicas in the world, I have seen some amazing churches even in our own diocese. These structures are a testament to the Church's love for God (read the entire Church - Militant, Suffering, Triumphant). They represent great skill, sacrifice, and passion for Our Lord and often times His Mother.  Yet the words of Christ always echo in my mind when contemplating the beauty that surrounds me in those places; “ Do you see these great buildings? Catherine June 24

It is understandable that after all that Catherine has gone through she is having trouble getting the hang of eating. After being on a ventilator and having tubes and such pushed down her throat she now has an oral aversion. She doesn't like things in her mouth including the bottle.

Nicole and the doctors and nurses are working with her on this. They are trying to teach her that the nipple, pacifier, etc are good things to have in her mouth. She does well at some feedings and not so well at others.

So, anything she doesn't eat on her own is slowly pumped into her stomach, via a tube through her nose, in between feeds. She is being fed over an ounce (30 mL) at this time. She often takes anywhere from 5mL to 20mL at each feeding and the rest is pumped in. The main goal is to get her off of the TPN (liquid food) as this could affect her liver. Even if they have to pump it all in that is fine as long as they get her off of it. They can deal with the oral issue over time.

She looks great and weighs a little over 6 lbs now. She is a typical baby in every other respect - dirty diapers (and getting to be a lot of them, thank the Lord), aware of surroundings, strengthening her neck muscles, kicking and swinging her arms.

Keep up your prayers please!
