Mary, May, and Mother's Day

A few years ago I wrote some rosary meditations for Mother's Day for my mom and my wife. Many have enjoyed them so I wanted to share them with you all. The meditations are in a three-fold PDF flyer format for downloading. Saturday Photo Finish (5/17/20)

What day is it? And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive
I can't keep up and I can't back down
I've been losing so much time

'Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do, nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all of the people...
- You and Me, Lifehouse

This song has been running through my head all week for obvious reasons.  Most of the time I have to check our whiteboard in the kitchen to see what day it is.  This quarantine is like a real life Groundhog Day!!

Thankfully there's much to keep us busy here on the farm.  I spent most of last Saturday afternoon weed eating and knocking down brush around the pond to make it fish-able once again.  I'm waiting on a new blade with chainsaw teeth to cut the other side.  That should be fun!  Anyway, here's my weekly summary of events that made the week a good one!

Pond freshly weed wacked on the left side.  Now to get rid of the green stuff
in the pond, patch a hole, and improve some water flow into it so we can start catching fish again.

We took the kids next door to the neighbor's house (grandma and grandpa) to visit the baby chicks on Sunday and to wish mom a Happy Mother's Day (keeping our distance of course).

Sunday evening I fixed a big pot of chicken and sausage gumbo for the family.  It's a crowd pleaser and one that I thoroughly enjoy making.  Nicole, a New Orleans native, says it's the better than hers so I take that as a real compliment.

My new Covid 19 gear. Just kidding, my boys have gotten me into airsoft and I purchased this mask and these goggles that fit over my glasses without fogging up.

On Monday I had the pleasure of spending some quality time with a great friend and mentor, John Bradford of Wilderness Outreach at the Clear Creek Metro Park.  A two hour hike turned into a four hour, 12 mile discussion about faith, masculine spirituality, and priestly formation.

The rear caliper on the 2006 CRV was locked up and needed to be replaced.  With the help of Youtube and B (in the background) I was able to get the job done for much less than taking it to the shop.

The same day I fixed the caliper I also changed the oil in my dad's truck.  When I went to get the truck this little fella was curled up in this ball of grass!! (rat snake)

We had a pretty strong storm roll through Thursday night while the boys were swimming in the creek.  D happened upon this gem of a mushroom (morel) definitely large enough for a sandwich.

The storm left it's calling card with some shingles ripped off of the roof.  That will be a fun job, not.

Many of you have probably been reading my Monday morning posts from my book about life with a special-needs daughter.  We haven't gotten to this part of the story by Catherine has a prosthetic right eye.  Friday morning when I got her up I notice the eye was missing.  After about 20 minutes of tearing the bedroom apart I found it, cleaned it, and popped it back in.  This prosthetic is pretty amazing.  It is hand painted glass.  It isn't the entire orb, more like a contact lens that is kept in place by her eye lids.  When her eye was removed due to cancer they placed an orb in the socket that is attached to her eye muscles so when her good eye turns the fake eye turns as well.  Amazing!
