The Seasons: A Poem

Sunrise over Amazing Grasses Family Farm The mad Artist wields His brush, Painted colors rush, To life and give flush, Before the quiet autumn hush. The life seems to pour, As colors fall to the floor, To be seen no more, Outside the dark, grey door. Brightness from below, Sun upon the snow, High, cold clouds blow, Flakes and ice appear to grow. The man melts with little seen, Underneath, pale, grey green, Hides life in dark unseen, Waits for warmth and to careen. Buds on branches show, Patience starts to grow, Trickles, streams and veins flow, Bringing fruits of melted snow. Sprung to life it springs, Bees, birds, sound rings, Lush green flings, Its gift bounty brings. Green growth gives one last rush, Underneath the Painter's brush. The mad Artist wields His brush, before the quiet autumn hush. More poetry is available from James M. Hahn in  The Last Dragon and Other Poems  available now. Suffering - A Poem

Below is a poem I wrote while reading about suffering in the magnificent book The Mystery of Suffering by Hubert Van Zeller, O.S.B.

His death, the snow continues to fall,
His death, the bass continues to swim,
His or her death, the flowers continue to bloom,
The world takes no notice,
Of the lost or the bereaved.

Birds sing, clouds roll, seasons change,
Suffering goes unheard,
Tears fall unnoticed,
Hearts rend - unseen,
By all, but One.

The tapestry continues,
The shuttle flies,
Threads cut, tied, and placed.

The Artist pulls tight on each living thread,
Adjusts them for light, color, and design,
The tautness pains but is needed.

Crimson red of martyrs,
Illness, dark brown,
Cancer, black,
Purple those never born into light,
Yellow those never fed,
Green - old with age,
Grey ones with self-wielding shears,
Orange the glow of fiery war,
Blue - those died as slaves,

The loom continues,
The shuttle weaves,
For all to see,
At the end of days.
